Real Madrid heads into the new season with more questions than answers

(CNN) — Zinedine Zidanes next coming at Real Madrid proved the Frenchman isnt a wonder worker.
After he returned to the club for another spell as coach, he also was assumed to provide solutions.
By the time Zidane was reappointed in March, two additional supervisors — Santiago Solari and Julen Lopetegui — had been and gone in the blink of the eye.
Fast forward to the close of Real Madrid and the season had lost 17 games in all competitions and finished 19 points making it the oddest Los Blancos side.
Actual dropped four of the 11 matches of Zidane accountable but his trophy-laden first charm gained him the benefit of the doubt with the board of all the club.
However, as La Liga shouts off Athletic Club beat Barcelona on Friday — doubts still linger over Zidanes man management abilities, his tactical nous and whether or not the achievement of his first bout had been down to 11 players individual brilliance — especially Cristiano Ronaldos persistent goalscoring feats.
I believe the major achievement of Zidane from the preceding years has been Cristiano Ronaldo and hes not at Madrid anymore, Catalunya Radio journalist Ernest Macia informed CNN Sport.
So now we will see the authentic Zidane. The folks here in Madrid said:The Real Madrid of Zinedine Zidane, it had been the Real Madrid of Cristiano Ronaldo. Today we will see how difficult its to handle, to master a room like Real Madrid when results are not excellent.
Hes a great deal of credit since he won three Champions Leagues, but it will rely not only on the outcomes but how Real Madrid plays. Unlike Barcelona, that is a club having a philosophy and DNA, Real is a club that welcomes cash to acquire titles

Pogba or Pogba
Zidanes ongoing feud with Gareth Bale — and A — which has included a 7-3 thrashing to city rival Atletico has added doubt to an period at the club.
It has been widely reported that the Frenchman will keep both Bale and James Rodriguez from the squad against his own wishes, as Actual failed to land his own No. 1 midfielder goal Paul Pogba.
Real President Florentino Perez has reportedly clashed over their future functions with Zidane, and is supposed to be a fan of James and the Welshman — coming during his time at the club.
Zinedine Zidane desired Pogba at any price, Macia stated. When he was asked:Alright, if Pogba is not feasible, another player? He said:Pogba.
Of course it is a huge disappointment if Pogba stays [in Manchester United], hell need to find solutions somewhere else. He has been offered three of four distinct choices and he is unhappy with Bale, whos a participant who makes a difference but he gets hurt very frequently.
New summer signings may require the time as well as Zidane has continued to show preference to that which he sees as his old defender that is trusted.
Karim Benzema seems set to start the up front before new $60 million ($66.5M) striker Luka Jovic, although doubts remain regarding the role summertime signing Eden Hazard will perform.
Actual announced that the Belgian star has sustained a hamstring injury and will miss Saturdays season opener, to make matters worse.
Stalwart Marcelo will likely be favored at left back to thrilling youthful signing Ferland Mendy, since will Raphael Varane instead of 50 million ($55M) registering Eder Militao to associate captain Sergio Ramos in the core of defense.
I dont see them winning a lot more names, Macia stated. In Europe theyve large competitions, in La Liga theyve Barcelona which is well accommodated. It will return to this undertaking is grown by Real Madrid.
With fresh players, notably the registering of Hazard, and also the way in which they make the transition in the old ones — such as Modric in midfield — and the newcomers. Im not sure that Zidane is the guy although I believe that Real has the players.
I think it will be quite tough for him and his newest time therell be more challenging than the previous four years.

Champions League obsession
Barcelonas settled facet is the favourite to retain its La Liga title with Atletico Madrid undergoing the squad overhaul — albeit an intriguing one — in the eight-year predominate of Diego Simeone.
The $120 million ($132M) signing of Antoine Griezmann from guide rival Atleti and the arrival of precocious talent Frenkie de Jong from Ajax has augmented the already world class squad.
Barcelonas attention this season will be on the Champions League, a competition it hasnt won since 2015 and has crashed from in style the past two seasons.
After surrendering 4-1 and 3-0 aggregate leads against Roma and Liverpool, respectively, there is a growing concern among fans that the club is throwing off opportunities for the best player : Lionel Messi.
After what has happened in the previous two seasons, the Champions League is now the priority — Id say its an obsession, Macia explained. In Barcelona we understand we have potentially the best player of all time and that were wasting our time committing ridiculous mistakes.
In Barcelona we think that the Champions League is essential for this team. Not only because of Messi but because Barcelona has an extraordinary team.
Theyve invested a Great Deal of cash in Griezmann and De Jong and possibly Barcelona has got the best group in Europe, together with Manchester City.
Barcelonas pre-season demonstrating hints that the new gamers are integrating into the programs of Ernesto Valverde, who is under stress this year after also losing the Copa del Rey closing, losing just once and has been promising.
But Barcas defeat in Bilbao Friday hinted while Actual won 3-1 away at Celta Vigo despite playing most of the second half after Luka Modric was delivered away the Blaugrana could have a fight on their hands to acquire the name.

Toronto Wolfpack: Can Canadian club complete journey to Super League?

Our partners utilize technology, like biscuits, and collect data that is browsing to personalise the content and advertising shown for you and to give you the best online experience.

By Dave Woods
BBC soccer league correspondent
From a spot in Super League, Toronto Wolfpack are just 80 minutes from pipe-dream to the border of reality.
After three years of playing their way the Wolfpack locate themselves in a marketing decider from Featherstone Rovers.
On the back part of their bidding for a spot in the elite of rugby league, a game that has been born from the northern towns of England is beginning to find its place in one of the hottest cities of North America.
I believe theres a huge opportunity from here, explained Jon Wilkin, a multiple Challenge Cup and Grand Final winner with St Helens, that this season was serving spearhead the Wolfpacks on-field bidding for advertising.
I guess the concept is wild and whacky, but it is a very professional set-up we have out here. Its simply not a conventional heartland, Wilkin told BBC Radio 5 Lives Rugby League Podcast this week before Saturdays match.
We had 9,500 people at our game a week (against Toulouse), and so for me personally that is astonishing.
The Toronto Argonauts, in the CFL – the equal of the NFL – theyd 12,000 people go to their match and they play at a tremendous 40,000 stadium and its on TV over here.
So for the Wolfpack to receive 9,500, thats enormous. An presence like that is not something to be sniffed at.
Promotion is far from a formality.
Toronto, headed by four-time Grand Final-winning former Leeds coach Brian McDermott, were leaders of the Championship, finishing 12 points clear from second-placed 29, this season.
But that goes around Super League is decided by a set of play-off games, culminating in a decider.
The Wolfpack were in precisely the identical position last year, just to be taken down by London Broncos.
This year it and also the contrast between the two clubs couldnt be sharper.
Featherstone – who is fans rejoice beneath the nicknamethe flat-cappers – is a village that rests in the center of the league heartland.
A stones throw away from Super League clubs Castleford and Wakefield Trinity, with Leeds not far beyond, they are often cast in the shadow of the acquaintances.
But some brilliant moments are shown up by their history. Their most recent afternoon in the sun was a Challenge Cup Wembley win in 1983 and theyve an appetite to compete with the elite again.
This season despite finishing fifth in the regular season, they have defied the odds by beating Leigh, York and Toulouse – all – to claim a place in this so-calledMillion Pound Game.
And Wilkin is not surprised that they have been the competitions with this competition of Toronto.
Nonot at all, he explained. Everyone from the outside looking in would state Toulouse and York are up there, another best two teams in the competition.
But the roughest two games we have played have been against Featherstone. Theyve been the Superb League-style games that weve played in, where its very much a tussle and there is not many fractures in the game, and they seem to enjoy that as much as any team we have played this level.
We are eager to be there and so are enjoying with them.
Earlier this week the Wolfpack noted that 8,000 tickets had been sold for Saturday.
Thats marketed, they state , not given away.
And they hope to turn fans off on the day if thehouse full signs go up.
But lose or win, the Wolfpack will go on, and Wilkin says his season with Toronto has revealed evidence the French league seeds from the city are beginning to take hold.
I think that its growing, he said. The region of the city where the scene is – a place named Liberty Village – is really a type of a hipster area, Google have their own offices there. Its a trendy, bohemian work place, but theres residential areas around there as well.
Id say nearly everyone in that area knows about the Wolfpack. You stop and talk to you. They know more about the match, they state things likegood luck in the closing.
However, the battle is Caribbean, the most important region of the city. Clearly the Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays are such brands and I do not think theres as much visibility there, but that is growing.
I jumped on a road car another day, the tram, and also the tram driverhigh fived me. It turned out to be a Wolfpack. As a small bench mark, I thought that was fascinating.
The odds are stacked in the Wolfpacks favour for this last match of this season. Featherstone, a mostly part-time group, had just a turnaround before stripping off to Canada from flying back.
The Wolfpack have had off and no need to travel from their Toronto foundation.
And he is said by Wilkin and his own team-mates are concentrated.
You can build up things a great deal. It is a Grand Final and the implications people winning, we would enter Super League, he said.
However, the consequences of the matchs outcome dont impact the processes on the field, or they shouldnt do. You can get too overawed by the scale of the undertaking, by the emotion of it, but like anything in life, if you break it down to little chunks that were bite-size it possible.
Big matches and pressurised environments alter peoples behaviour. The challenge for us is that we do not need to change anything to win the match.
We are extremely respectful of Featherstone, theyve a excellent young coach as well, but if we perform at our finest I think we win the game and thats what we have to do.

Europe’s next generation of football stars shine across the continent

(CNN) — With Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo at the twilight of their careers, soccer fans are stressing about the deep hole the pair will depart from the game once they retire.
But despite the inevitable departure appearing on the horizon, the sport seems to be in safe hands since a few of the planet’s most promising stars shone for their teams around Europe’s best leagues that weekend.
Some of the greatest performances came in Joao Felix, Kai Havertz and precocious 16-year-old talent Eduardo Camavinga.
Angolan teenager Camavinga — appearing in just his 10th mature game for Ligue 1 side Rennes — played a starring role at the victory over powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, assisting for Romain Del Castillo to go home into winner.
Following a few breakthrough games last season, his performances this term have started to turn heads because Rennes narrowly lost to PSG at the Champions’ Trophy and opened its own Ligue 1 campaign with back-to-back wins.
Camavinga moved in the age of two and was born in Angola, reports L’Equipe. Rennes spoted him playing soccer in Foug??res, 50 kilometers from the city.

He signed his first pro contract with Rennes in December andin an attempt to tie down his potential at the club a little longerhe signed an expansion this week until 2022.
Though a native of Angola, L’Equipe say Camavinga is in the process of being a French citizen with a view to playing for the national team.
Before Sunday’s win over PSG, Rennes manager Julien St??phan warned of this vulnerability — and subsequent necessary coverage — Camavinga will desire.
“Exposed, because if he repeats the kind of performance that he attained against Montpellier (1-0 on the opening afternoon )he has opportunities to take a greater place in the team,” Stephan clarified.
“But also protected, because he is not yet seventeen years old, he’s still constructing himself on a muscular amount and he has not undergone a Ligue 1 set of matches using the intensity it takes nevertheless.”
Camavinga was on the receiving end of numerous cynical fouls from dissatisfied PSG gamers — most people who cost tens of thousands of thousand of dollars — who seldom got anywhere close to the ball if it had been in his feet.
He can be tall for a 16-year-old — standing in foot but Camavinga’s frame is slight, though it’s not a part of the match his boss worries about.
“He is a really well-built individual,” Stephan said after the physical game. “Who knows how to query himself, who knows the way to do the ideal thing.
“He has quite an intriguing game, I will have to deal with it. I’ll talk to him so that he can grow up in states of serenity.”
Felix’s flair
Back in Spain, Felix showed no signs of becoming weighed down with his hefty $142 million cost as his dance feet ran Getafe’s defense .
Diego Simeone created the teenager the most expensive player ever in the summer but so far the Benfica academy product appears worth every penny.
After receiving man of the match recognition at the 7-3 pre-season demolition of town rival Real Madrid, Felix started his La Liga career with a performance which showcased his enormous ability.
Atleti’s new registering Kieran Trippier spanned for Alvaro Morata to head home the opening goal, until Felix’s trickery — a streak which began using a freshwater in his own half — won a penalty in the next period.
Morata didn’t convert Atletico held on for victory at the very first effort from the post-Antoine Griezmann era.
Kai excels for Bayer
Bayer Leverkusen celebrity Kai Havertz is by now accustomed to breaking documents.
Back in 2016 he became the youngest debutant at Bundesliga history; in 2018 he became the youngest player to create 50 Bundesliga appearances; and last year he hit 17 aims to become the top scoring teenager in a Bundesliga season.
After narrowly missing out to the German player of the year award for Marco Reus, reports indicated several of Europe’s major clubs would try and prize Bayer’s star possession off.
But the 20-year-old remains in the club and scored a delightful processor in Saturday’s opening-day 3-2 victory over Paderborn, getting the second greatest player ever before to reach 25 Bundesliga targets.
Big items are predicted of the youngster this year, who seems more prone to eclipse his performances in the last season.
Timeless talent
Though this report could be on the celebrities of the future, a word has to visit 38-year-old Aritz Aduriz — that the most veteran striker who continues to defy Father Time.
Playing his final year of pro football, he came off the bench for Athletic Club with just two minutes remaining in the opening match of the La Liga season.
But two moments were all that he needed, scoring a stunning bicycle kick to inflict an opening-day defeat on Barcelona.

Will US Sports Betting Market Follow European In-Play Betting Behavior?

The sport is still in its infancy. There is a great deal to learn for both bettors and operators who are new to the marketplace. As technology advances and the industry evolves, changes will be made. One thing that we’re already beginning to see, a rise in the number of in-game bets.
What is In-Game Betting?
In-game gambling is the procedure of putting a bet on an outcome for a game that is already in activity. An example would be putting a bet on a kicker in an NFL game to create or miss a present field goal effort. In-game stakes are not only geared towards prop bets, but they also fluctuate the moneyline odds and also the disperse as a game continues.

For instance, if the Green Bay Packers are playing with the Chicago Bears, let’s say that the Packers are a 7-point favored. Bettors can place bets throughout the sport as that disperse fluctuates with the sport. If the Packers are up by 14 at the fourth quarter, then you can expect the spread to switch to somewhere in the range of 14 points, as opposed to the seven points it was at before the game started. At this time you’re essentially gambling on just the fourth quarter after having to find out how each team played for three quarters.

That is 1 reason in-game betting is becoming so popular. Instead of betting before a game starts, you can watch a number of the game and get a feel for how every team is playing before making your bet. Another attraction of is the speed of results. Rather than putting a wager on an MLB game before it begins and having to wait for three hours to possibly collect your winnings, then an in-game wager can provide a quicker turnaround. You can put a bet in the ninth inning and also have your cash in minutes. An alternative is to wager on the result of a field target like we spoke about before. In minutes you can collect your winnings. That speed of cover attracts some bettors who don’t like to await hours to win.
