Lionel Messi confessed he doesn’t believe Barcelona did”all they might” to deliver Neymar back to Spain from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Neymar was the topic of those longest-running move sagas of this summertime, together using the Brazilian appearing set to come back to Catalonia two decades later leaving for a world-record fee.
However, Sky Sports News reported two weeks ago that PSG’s unwillingness to reduce their evaluation, despite Neymar’s offer to pay #17.7m ($20m) towards securing a deal, ensured the movement failed to materialise.
Messi, who formed an attacking triumvirate that was exhilarating in Barcelona using Neymar and Luis Suarez, would have liked to have seen that the trio link up .
“I would have liked for Neymar to have returned” Messi told Spanish publication Sport. “Honestly, I’m not positive if Barca did whatever they could to signal him but I know it is hard to negotiate with PSG.
“I am not disappointed. We’ve got a stunning squad that could challenge for everybody, despite Ney.
“Neymar is among the best on earth. With his level and sponsors, it would have been a large gain for the team .”
Messi is under contract in Barca before 2021 but has a clause added in his deal that could see him leave the Nou Camp for nothing from the season’s close.
On the other hand, the team have reiterated that they remain confident their inspirational captain will stay beyond the summertime, and Messi himself affirmed that he doesn’t have plans.
“Barcelona is my home and I do not want to depart,” Messi additional. “But I would like to win. I wish to win the Champions League, it has been a very long time since we won it.”
