As the poet Ice Cube once said, today was a day that is fantastic. And by today, I mean ! We picked up two more wins to run our MLB playoff record yesterday. In the early match, we supported the Washington Nationals, to the road, against the St. Louis Cardinals. I felt that after Anibal Sanchez managed to the Cardinals which Max Scherzer will be better. And in spite of the fact that Adam Wainwright was amazing in his NLDS start, I backed Washington and just didnt believe he can go toe to toe with Mad Max.
Along with the game went according to program. As Sanchez did the night before, Scherzer needed a night as he ended his day with seven innings, and really chose a no-hitter into the seventh inning pitched, allowing just one hit and striking out eleven. And Wainwright was great, because he allowed three earned runs pitched seven and a third innings and struck eleven out. The Nats earned Sean Doolittle, and he immediately gave up a series twist up the game, since this Washington bullpen was known to perform.
Washington used a combination of Daniel Hudson and novices Patrick Corbin to find the last three outs and quickly yanked Doolittle for the final framework of the game. The Nationals employed a very unconventional pitching team at the wild card round and the NLDS, and it appears they are going to stick with that strategy within this series against St. Louis. Washington has now won both games in St. Louis and assuming they dont fully implode at home, they seem to be heading into their World Series in franchise history.
The first game was a nice win, but was in the match between the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees last night, where we made our cash. The Astros had a former Cy Young Award winner over the mound and have been essentially unbeatable at home this season, so it took a lot of heart to fade them. However, it had been the play that is ideal. I felt that Greinke had only been fickle in his time with Houston to desire to become a significant favorite from a lineup that is so gifted.
And on the opposite side of this mound, Masahiro Tanaka has been a monster in the match, and after viewing the Rays hold back the Astros for a lot of the ALDS, I believed that he was going to have success. And while Greinke was not dreadful, he allowed three runs and pitched six innings six innings that Tanaka clearly outdueled him. Tanaka threw six innings and allowed no runs and just 1 hit. After all this talk of a softball baseball throughout the regular season, we are seeing a lot of nearly no-hitters here in the championship series.
Even the Yankees played as they forged at the Houston bullpen in 3 innings to entry, scoring four runs . The Yankees lacked match one 7-0, along with gleyber Torres completed his afternoon with five RBIs and have home-field advantage. For the current selection, we will remain right here in the American League because we collapse game two of the ALCS.
Because they could ill-afford to fall back to back home games to the 23, the Astros locate themselves in a must-win place tonight. Butluckily for Houston, they have Justin Verlander scheduled to start tonight, and he is on course to win another Cy Young Award this year. The Yankees will counter with the genius of the own as they go with James Paxton in a strength of power matchup.
Beginning tonight for the Astros is Justin Verlander (21-6 2.58 ERA), also for the Yankees its James Paxton (15-6 3.82 ERA). The match total over-under is set in seven and a half runs. The Astros are big -159 home field favorites. First pitch is scheduled for 5:08 PM PST out of Minute Maid Park in Houston.
The Astros chose to start Justin Verlander on brief rest at the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays. While Verlander was one of, if not THE, greatest pitchers in the league this season, he didnt pitch well against Tampa Bay. He got two-thirds of an inning pitched and all earned, in only three. He walked, and gave up seven hits, including two home runs.
Verlander is back on rest tonightbut had he been able to look after business against Tampa Bay in game four, his team would not be so exhausted coming to this series. Against New York this year, he was not good as he had one of the greatest ERAs against any group at 4.15. In two starts, he allowed six earned runs and pitched a thirteen innings. Until it gets started if Verlander cant find a way to shut down this Yankees lineup, then the Astros may see this show end.
James Paxton has never really been the genius that New York has been expecting that they were getting when they brought him in from the Seattle Mariners. But he has been fairly excellent. After really fighting in the first half of the season, he turned it on in the second half because he went 10-2 with a more than respectable 3.63 ERA. The Yankees won his closing ten starts of the regular season.
In his lone start of the ALDS, he got roughed up a little as he allowed two-thirds of an inning and also three runs in only four. New York won the match, since they exploded for ten runs of aid, when he would like to hang with Justin Verlander, but hell want to become better tonight.
Who wins this match? Honestly, I really dont know. My mind tells me Verlander has just been too great in your home to not like him. But when I look at this Yankees lineup, they are just so strong. They hit for power and average top to bottom. I would lean towards Houston if I had to choose a stand, but at that price, I dont think I can profitably them back.
1 number that I do like though, is the sport total of seven and a halfdozen. Both these teams have strong lineups. Both teams shattered the home run record this season, and the two teams have the majority of their bats wholesome and of the field. With a half and a few as low as seven, you only need 1 team to acquire sexy to push over it.
Verlander is wonderful? Ok, perhaps Paxton struggles. Both are good? Well the bullpens give a couple runs up. With a number you dont need too many things to go into discuss. One inning could take action. And I think thats what happens tonight. This game will sail over, and it might take all nine innings, although I believe the two novices give up runs. Its simply too tough to maintain powerful lineups such as these one down for long. Give me the more than seven and a half runs in game two!
