Philadelphia Phillies +175
The team that made the biggest offseason dab the Phillies, by landing celebrity Bryce Harper look to be on going for it this year and beyond, all-in. Exterior of Harper, the Phillies managed to signal OF Andrew McCutchen and exchange for SS Jean Segura and also the best catcher on the market in J.T. Realmuto in the Marlins. Last season, the Phillies ranked 30th in hits and 29th in doubles and were at the lowest half of MLB in homers and RBIs so these additions should surely move the needle to put more runs on the board, fixing what had been Philadelphia’s biggest weakness this past year.
This group should ruin divisional teams and the punch of Jake Arrieta and Aaron Nola will give teams fits but they will need to look after their games. Last year they had been right there to make the playoffs but they ended in 76 games against NL East teams with a 36-40 SU listing. This branch is much more competitive than some of the others in MLB although I don’t anticipate a repeat of that record as I don’t expect a wild-card group to come out of this division, and there is a smaller margin for error.
