Giro d’Italia winner, Richard Carapaz will join Team Ineos from the beginning of the 2020 season.
Even the 26-year-old Ecuadorian adds to an already impressive stable of riders that includes Egan Bernal, Geraint Thomas and Tour de France winners Chris Froome and has agreed a three-year deal.
Team main Sir Dave Brailsford – whose staff have won seven of the previous eight Tour de France titles – stated:”He is obviously a fantastic climber but also has good flexibility as he showed at the Giro before this past year.
“He is still relatively young and I don’t have any doubt he could develop and enhance even farther at Team Ineos.”
Carapaz became the first riders from Ecuador to acquire some Grand Tour when he succeeded at the Giro.
He explained:”I’m quite excited about joining the team. I think that this is a wonderful chance for me to continue expansion and my development for a rider, operating with a group that continues to go from strength to strength, year in, year out.
“I believe I’ll fit into this group well and race to my full potential within the coming years. I need to attain some great triumphs to get Team Ineos.”
Meanwhilegrand tour champion Nairo Quintana is linking Arkea-Samsic on a three-year thing.
The Colombian, who won the Giro d’Italia at 2016 at 2014 and the Vuelta, has also twice finished runner-up at the Tour de France.
