Their unbeaten run enhanced in Sky Bet League 2 to three matches with a comfortable 3-0 victory over 10-man Northampton.
With all three of the goals coming inside the opening 31 seconds the Iron did the harm in the first half.
Lee Novak fired them ahead in the 12th minute, beating the offside trap to bring down a smart pass and envision it.
Two minutes after, the striker netted his second, now pouncing range after a Kevin Van Veen header had been kept out by Cornell.
Sam Hoskins shot broad through an unusual sight at target for the people, before van Veen – against his former team – curly a strike to the far corner of the net to wrap up victory for the hosts.
Northampton improved after the break, but any hopes they had back into the game vanished for grabbing Scunthorpe goalkeeper Rory Watson in the face with his boot whilst hard for the ball after striker Vadaine Oliver was shipped off.
A bloodied Watson was forced off, although the Iron continued to dominate – with just a combination of Cornell and the crossbar denying Novak that a hat-trick overdue on.
