Celtic opened a three-point gap across Rangers at the Peak of this Ladbrokes Premiership in Parkhead.
Using a double being preceded by a strike by skipper Scott Brown at the 57th minute James Forrest the scoring started at the 19th moment at Parkhead.
Neil Lennons side have now won eight matches in succession since dropping their national defeat, to Livi in West Lothian last month this year.
Rangers have the opportunity to close the gap in Hamilton on Sunday, while Lennons staff will prepare to continue Rennes from the Europa League on Thursday, secure in the knowledge that his side are through to the final 32 of the competition and also in fine shape.
Celtic had gone three games without a win over Livi and without scoring. To the, Lennon returned Ryan Christie along with Tom Rogic in an effort to address this poor album.
The first real chance for the Hoops arrived from the seventh minute when Jeremie Frimpong produced a yard of space for themself inside Livingstons box but drove straight at keeper Matija Sarkic.
If Edouard did he scored with his signature composure although celtic found it tough to get behind the defence of the West Lothian side.
Gary Holts side looked and despite the interest of chasing Livi defender Ricki Lamie from 14 yards over Sarkic.
Celtic grew and relaxed in confidence.
The veteran midfielder and the ball took a deflection with Hoops fans encouraging Brown to shoot from 20 yards when he took control of a Christie overhaul.
Forrests first goal came following Sarkic, the ball spinning high despatching it as it descended rescued Frimpongs angled-drive.
Sarkic made a fantastic top-corner save from Christie before Forrest hurried through on to a pass by the Inverness midfielder in added time to play his second and put the strain on their Old Firm rivals for Sunday.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon:Therell likely be nervous moments as we move along. Therell be a dip but were playing and in a position that is powerful.
We all know there could be a below-par functioning around the corner but were prepared for this too. Psychologically that is a good win for us.
You get 24 hours to appreciate it and determine exactly what the [Rangers] result brings and you move on to the next one.
Livingston director Gary Holt:I understand everyone will pick up the papers and look at it 4-0, however I just believed individual mistakes occasionally in the game .
For effort and commitment and all of the things you search for, staff shape, being brave occasionally in ownership, I thought we had that.
Sometimes I felt we could have been braver but, if you take the goals from the game, they didnt cut us open a lot of times.
Host Rennes midweek on Thursday from the Europa League and then they confront a visit – live on Sky Sports in 12pm. Following Saturday livingston host Hamilton.
