After compiling a dreadful record with the Cleveland Browns, Hue Jackson is without an NFL gig for the 2019 season. Given his 3-36-1 record in two and a half seasons in Cleveland along with the odd 8-8 year with the Oakland Raiders in 2011, it would seem Jackson will be tough to convince an owner to give him a second shot.
\nThe Browns and Raiders manager told WFNZ Charlotte on Wednesday he thinks that he can be a head coach.

\n“Oh, yeah, I mean I think I could,” Jackson explained, through Professional Football Talk. “I mean, simply because the problem in Cleveland [didn’t work out] does not indicate that you can’t coach. There is a lot of coaches who arrived and did great things. Sometimes, the situation differs. I think if people dig in and actually take some time to examine the total situation there, perhaps they’d know it more. At the exact same time, I understand what narrative gets put out there, that is what people know. Hopefully, folks will think back to the times when I’ve put myself in that place. I had to do something right. To go back and be a planner again or be a head coach, I do believe it’s in my future. I have just got to go work through the procedure and see where it belongs .”
\nJackson interviewed for the Cincinnati Bengals coaching gig this offseason and the Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator job. was landed by him.
\nOnce seen as the prime candidate to succeed Marvin Lewis in Cincinnati, Jackson’s public standing got ripped to shreds through his stint at Cleveland. The stench of this 0-16 season will follow him everywhere. The record is poor enough to make it difficult for an owner to sell him to the general public. Worse compared to 3 wins in Cleveland could be quarterback Baker Mayfield’s very public rebuke of Jackson’s design — something owners would be aware of and weigh heavily — and also the troubling back-and-forth meetings revealed throughout HBO’s Hard Knocks final training camp.
\nYet it only takes one team, and one owner to be certain that the situation had to do with Jackson’s bad tenure than his ability to coach.
\n“Here’s a guy who knows how to overcome,” Jackson said when asked his story. “There’s a great deal of people who’d run from it all. I am not likely to run out of it. At the end of the day, our staff and the individuals who headed Cleveland, that doesn’t mean those coaches can not coach or they do not understand what they’re doing. Maybe that just wasn’t the right match, the ideal situation for this group, and they simply should have the right chance to have success.”
\nJackson would likely need to do heavy image rehab, starting with landing a lower-level training gig in order for a team to even consider giving him a second shot. At a league where coaches are constantly recycled, perhaps there’s a possibility for the 53-year-old to build up his crippled picture. It is going to take a lot of time, and a huge sell job to the public for that to happen. Even then, it’d be a stunner when Jackson landed a second head coaching gig in the NFL.<\/p>\n
