Paul McGinley appears at the demands confronting the players in the golf program and reflects on a week to keep in mind at the BMW PGA Championship.
\nWhen you are one of the elite, best 50 in the world rankings it is possible to pick and choose the tournaments that you play with and the prize funds in each event are incredible. It’s demanding, but it’s a great problem.
\nThe end of the game is now at a place, there is little doubt about this. The program this year has been different to previous years, and there are almost certain to be players taking another course.
\nI like the structure, although it was going to take time for the new schedule to bed . I know it’s had its critics, but the significant thing for me is that the European Tour has a wonderful chance to shine and draw fields from September through to October.
\nIt is likely to be much more shaky next year with the Olympics and the Ryder Cup to take into account for the players, but I think this year has worked out quite well in general.
\nThe players have to figure out what works better for them. Although others perform better when they’ve taken time off some players relish playing a great deal of tournaments.
\nThis season we’ve experienced The Players moving to mid-March, and then the Masters had been the first in a run in every month of one in July, and I think that was a great thing for the golfing calendar.
\nIt’s now up to the European Tour to be certain that November, October and September are very excellent months to come with powerful fields in events, such as the four Rolex Series events we’ve got to come before the season’s conclusion.
\nWe’ve certainly had a fantastic turnout here in Wentworth, and it had been great to see Patrick Reed Tony Finau and Billy Horschel make the excursion to appreciate their debuts in the flagship event of the European Tour.
\nThey have all been impressed with this class and everything that accompanies this BMW PGA Championship, also I don’t have any doubt that we will see an even stronger American contingent following year, coming to Wentworth in September.
\nThe date has gone down well with the players, and I’d expect to observe the field becoming stronger and stronger in years ahead. Horschel, Reed and finau understand the rich history, in addition to the essence of the golf course .
\nMany have said the golf course has never been noticed by them in better shape, and I would agree with this. The status of the route was excellent, although I’d have liked to have seen the greens somewhat milder and give the players a harder test and some of the hooks could have been a little more difficult.
\nNonetheless, it’s been a different tournament, appreciated by the players and the fans alike, and we have got to anticipate over the final weeks of their European Tour season.<\/p>\n
